PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - It's always interesting to know what your heritage is and where you come from. Today kicked off Native American Heritage Month and according to some census reports, about 40,000 to 50,000 Native Americans call Virginia home. Vincent Schilling is among them.

He is an award winning author and photojournalist and his passion and dedication to his culture made him this week's I Am Hampton Roads.

The 3rd Annual Native American Heritage Month Celebration Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012 at Pembroke Mall in Virginia Beach from noon to 4 p.m. There will be native dancers, drummers, singers and more and the event is free and open to the public.

Native American Heritage Day is Nov. 25, 2012.

Vincent is also the host of his new blog talk radio show, Native Trailblazers which airs every Friday at 7 p.m.
