PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - On Feb. 18, the Virginia Symphony POPS will perform "From Brooklyn to Broadway and Beyond" at Chrysler Hall.

This concert showcases some of the great musical talent that has come out of Brooklyn, and is a great opportunity for a post-Valentine's Day date night!

For this concert, JoAnn Falletta, who normally conducts the Classical concerts will be on the podium. She is a native New Yorker, so this is a concert near and dear to her heart.

They will have four fabulous guest artists with extensive performance experience. Gary Mauer and Elizabeth Southard are a married couple who met while performing leading roles in Phantom of the Opera. Vocalist Sarah Williams is a Norfolk resident who has performed internationally. Pianist Konstantin Soukhovetski will dazzle not only with his performance, but with his flashy style.

The music is something everyone can enjoy: songs from Phantom of the Opera, and other great musicals. Hits by Barbara Streisand, Barry Manilow and Neil Diamond. Plus a return performance of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue (which is back this year by popular demand).
