Last minute holiday shoppers still out

HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) - Time is ticking to finish your holiday shopping and many shoppers are feeling the pressure.

Lots of folks are still out hunting for gifts despite the tight deadline. Stores were packed Monday from the mall to department stores with last minute shoppers.

“I like to be prepared, so I’m not one to do the last minute shopping,” Kim Stumbo told WAVY.com. “So I’m a little bit overwhelmed trying to get everything done. ”

Stumbo and her husband decided just Sunday night to swap gifts, so she raced against the clock. She’s feeling the stress of searching and seeking, but a message from her husband shows she’s not the only one.

“My husband is texting me making sure it’s okay to get what I told him,” she said.

Mindy Clepper is usually not the last minute type either, until she took a look under the trees this morning.

“I went through the tree and kind of stacked up to see who had more presents, I noticed it was just a little uneven,” she told WAVY.com.

She couldn’t find the coveted Lego sets she was looking for, but at least she found holiday snacks. After cutting corners and navigating aisles, Stumbo did find some items on her list.

“I have Legos, Star Wars that are actually for my husband, not my son. Then I have a Christmas storybook for my four-year-old.”

After a long day of waiting in lines and crowds, both women say they won’t cut it so close next year.

Jermay  Henson has four kids to shop for and he just started shopping on Christmas Eve. But, you won't hear him stress or complain about it.

I'm a single dad and this is what I do. I want till the last minute and get the best buys," said Henson.

Henson says he thrives off the pressures.

"That's what makes Christmas so fun. If I didn't like all of this I would have done it six seven weeks ago," said Henson.

He spent the day search high and low for gifts for his littles one. He doesn't carry a list or make a plan, he just looks around.

"I go until I tell myself to stop pretty much or until my credit card tells me no more," said Henson.

After a few hours, Henson managed to get something for everyone on his list, and he leaves just as calms as he entered the store.
