Holiday tipping and gift etiquette

WASHINGTON (CNN) - The same questions about tipping, gifting and re-gifting come up every holiday season.

Alexandra Kovach is a graduate of the Protocol School of Washington and an etiquette coach. When it comes to tipping, she says you should recognize the people who take care of you on a daily basis, or throughout the year.

Here are some guidelines from the Emily Post Institute:

  • Hair Salon - the cost of one visit divided among those who take care of you
  • Babysitter - one evening's pay plus a small gift from the kids
  • Newspaper carrier - $10 to $30 in cash or a gift
  • Housekeepers - up to one week's pay or an equivalent gift

First and foremost, do not feel you need to go beyond your personal budget.
