SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - The City of Suffolk will kick off the holiday season with the 2012 Grand Illumination Ceremony on Nov. 17.

The event will take place at Market Park in downtown Suffolk at 6 p.m., though the park will open at 5 p.m. A 32’ tree will be lit and Santa will arrive in style, Diana Klink with the City of Suffolk said.

In addition, holiday music will be provided by school choirs and carriage rides will be available for purchase. Concessions will also be available.

Kink said two holiday films, “Shrek the Halls” and “Curious George: A Very Monkey Christmas” will be shown for the kids and holiday-themed craft activities will also take place.

The event is free and open to the public. Parking will not be available at Market Park. Those attending are asked to park at First Baptist Church on North Main Street and the Suffolk Visitor's Center. A shuttle will also be available for anyone parking in the Mills Godwin Courthouse parking lot.
