HAMPTON, Va. - “THE ACTIVIST IS NOT THE MAN WHO SAYS THE RIVER IS DIRTY. THE ACTIVIST IS THE MAN WHO CLEANS UP THE RIVER.” --ROSS PEROT
After spinal surgery 14 years ago left this honoree with limited mobility, he looked for a place to use the skills he did have. He realized many elderly had limited mobility to get to and from medical procedures and doctor’s appointments -- and then he realized that he could drive. And so it began. He uses his own vehicle as a volunteer driver for the Peninsula Agency on Aging’s MedTran program. In the last year and a half, he has driven more than 14,000 miles to get the elderly in need to appointments and procedures they wouldn’t otherwise be able to attend -- never asking for any form of reimbursement. In addition to his work with the MedTran program, he is on the Board of Directors of the Loyal Order of Moose and is responsible for funeral arrangements, visitations and correspondence within the Moose community. This honoree served 21 years in the military -- including two tours in Vietnam. Welcome Home.
FOR HIS ACTIVISM AND COMMITMENT TO SERVICE, WE ARE PROUD TO HONOR JACK SCUDDER AS ONE OF WAVY-TV'S 2009 10 WHO CARE.
