"The true meaning of life is to plant trees, under whose shade you do not expect to sit." -- Nelson Henderson
This honoree wouldn't think to sit down under the shade of that tree she just planted. Her dedication to community service began with Girl Scouts when she was a young girl. Today, she still serves the Girl Scouts as the Chair of the Archives for the Girl Scout Council of the Colonial Coast. She also volunteers weekly with the SPCA helping to socialize cats and spends time each week at the Family History Center in Virginia Beach helping those researching their heritage. She crochets an average of 30 hats per month for premature babies born at Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters and once a month she drops stuffed animals off at the post office. They are bound for Iraq as part of the Beanies for Baghdad program she volunteers with. For more than 20 years she has been a member of Zonta -- an organization dedicated to improving the status of women worldwide. Shes traveled to Australia and other locations to attend Zonta events and has served as an officer in the organization. She has personally donated money to scholarship funds for both Zonta and Girl Scouts. Indeed the trees shes planted have grown to shade many. We are happy to honor Lila Davis as one of WAVY-TV's 10 Who Care.
