NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - MARION WRIGHT EDDELMAN SAID: “SERVICE IS THE RENT WE PAY FOR LIVING.”

Our next honoree felt her rent was due and moved to pay it. During her SECOND battle with cancer, she promised God she would help His special people if only he would help her.

Here’s how this honoree pays “the rent”: First, with her church parish’s food pantry – ordering, purchasing and pick up of all foodbank items. If the foodbank doesn’t have it, she solicits local supermarkets and sometimes buys items herself to feed 150 families per week. Next, with the Appalachia Project -- collecting and packing winter clothes and blankets, then DRIVING and DISTRIBUTING them to those in need -- in APPALACHIA. Also with the Game Wardens of Vietnam --raising funds to ensure wounded service members can stay at Walter Reed Army Hospital or Bethesda Naval Hospital to get treatment. And through Relay for Life – organizing her churches team and working fundraising dinners and chili cook offs.

And in her spare time, this honoree serves as the Fundraising and Community Relations Committee Chairperson for the Faith Works Coalition, Inc. with Habitat for Humanity.
