NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - “THE ACTIVIST IS NOT THE MAN WHO SAYS THE RIVER IS DIRTY. THE ACTIVIST IS THE MAN WHO CLEANS UP THE RIVER.” --ROSS PEROT

This honoree had a heart attack in 2007. In 2008, she had a stroke. Since these two events, she has become a champion for heart health.

She speaks at every opportunity to small groups or large, radio or TV, to get the message out about the importance of heart health. She has served as an Ambassador for the American Heart Association telling her story to help others. Her story was even used on Capitol Hill encouraging law makers to vote on Health Care Reform for Heart and Stroke-related medical issues.

She has worked countless “Go Red” and A.H.A. events. Through her position at AmeriGroup, this honoree has extended her community outreach to fellow employees, implementing the START Walking Campaign. Based on this program, the company was featured in Forbes Magazine as a Fit Friendly company.

Thankfully, she was on hand and able to recognize when a co-worker and an attendee at a speaking engagement were exhibiting heart attack and stroke symptoms. As a result these folks received immediate attention, and our honoree continues to raise a flag for the importance of heart health.

Sharing her story and changing lives... Our Partners On Your Side and WAVY-TV honor GAIL ALEXANDER-WRIGHT as one of our 10 WHO CARE.
