Melanie Woodrow joined WAVY/WVBT as the military reporter in January 2007. Melanie also anchors WAVY News 10 Sunrise Sunday mornings and is a member of WAVY's political team.
During her time at WAVY/WVBT, Melanie has investigated several veteran complaints and grievances at the Hampton VA hospital.
Her most memorable experience as the military beat reporter was flying with the Royal Air Force Red Arrows. Melanie is proud to have pulled 5 1/2 Gs without passing out or getting sick!
During her time in Virginia, Melanie was awarded the Virginia Associated Press Broadcasters Meritorious Award for Best Investigative Reporting and the VAPB Meritorious Award for Individual Reporter Effort. Melanie was also honored for Outstanding Feature Reporting by the Virginia Association of Broadcasters.
Previously, Melanie was the weekday morning anchor and a reporter at NBC25 in Hagerstown, MD. In addition to producing, anchoring and one-man-band reporting for NBC25, she also reported news for two local radio stations, Lite 97.5 and Cool 95.9.
While at NBC25, Melanie exclusively reported Washington County's first ever Internet online predator sting. Melanie was the only reporter to have a sit-down interview with the first suspect caught.
After a man was burned by police while being arrested, Melanie broke the news that he had been tazered and pepper sprayed by two local law enforcement agencies carrying non-compatible weapons.
Prior to joining NBC25, Melanie was a Production Assistant at MSNBC.
She also worked at the Investment Bank JPMorgan Chase for two years in New York City.
Melanie graduated from Cornell University in 2001. She was the Valedictorian of Cornell University's College of Human Ecology.
