Derrick Rose joined the WAVY-TV 10 family in February 2007.
The award-winning reporter comes to Hampton Roads from WJTV-TV, the CBS affiliate in Jackson, Mississippi. In 2006, he was named "Journalist of the Year" by the Jackson Association of Black Journalists, the local chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists. Derrick was also honored by the Associated Press for his skill in covering breaking news.
During his time in Jackson, Derrick was also on the front lines of major national stories with local impact. In January 2005, Derrick was the first reporter on air to report the arrest of reputed Klansman Edgar Ray Killen for the 1964 murders of three civil rights workers in Philadelphia, Mississippi. Later that year, Derrick helped provide team coverage of Killen's trial including the historic verdict exactly 41 years after the killings. Two months later, Derrick found himself inside Mississippi's Emergency Management Headquarters highlighting the state's preparation, response and recovery from Hurricane Katrina.
Before moving to Jackson, Derrick spent nine months at ABC affiliate WABG-TV in Greenville, Mississippi. He started his career at WJMF-TV, the FCC licensed television station operated by Towson University in Baltimore. While at Towson, Derrick interned at WBAL-TV, the Baltimore NBC affiliate, before graduating with a degree in Electronic Media in May 2003.
The Prince George's County, Maryland native enjoys traveling and eating. Derrick credits his success to his faith in God.
