Cheryl Nelson is the weekend evening meteorologist for WAVY-TV 10 and Fox 43 and she is happy to be back in her home state of Virginia.  Cheryl also does the Monday "Pet of the Week" segment during the noon newscast.  Prior to relocating to Hampton Roads, Cheryl was a national broadcast meteorologist for AccuWeather Inc. where she provided weather broadcasts for cities nationwide and appeared on Fox News Channel and CNBC.

Cheryl received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Meteorology from Penn State University, and is a member of both the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association.  In addition, she holds the AMS Seal of Approval awarded to her by the American Meteorological Society for her knowledgeable weather broadcasts.  In 2008, Cheryl was awarded the Superior Award for "Weathercast of the Year-2007" from the Virginia AP (Associated Press).  Cheryl also contributed to the coverage that won Emmy and Murrow awards for "Continuing Coverage of the Suffolk Tornadoes" in 2008.

Cheryl began her career at WSYR-TV in Syracuse, NY where she was the meteorologist for a regional morning show serving the ABC affiliate TV stations in Binghamton, Utica, and Watertown, NY.  Following that, she worked at WSTM/WSTQ-TV in Syracuse where she was weekday meteorologist for the 10pm newscast.

In her spare time, Cheryl enjoys photography, skiing, traveling to exotic places with her husband, and being around her family and pets.  Having family roots in New England, Cheryl cheers on the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, and of course her alma mater, the Penn State Nittany Lions!  Additionally, Cheryl visits schools to talk with children about the weather, and is a volunteer with the Penn State Alumni Recruitment Team and the Miss America Organization.
