Lauren Compton first worked at WAVY-TV 10 as an intern in 2006 and is excited to be working with the team now as a reporter. Working at WAVY-TV 10 is also a much-anticipated homecoming for Lauren. She is a Navy Brat, and grew up in Hampton Roads.
After graduating from Virginia Commonwealth University, Lauren started her broadcasting career at WWBT in Richmond. She started as a production assistant, and worked her way up to becoming a weekend morning director, and online feature writer. She produced popular online segments such as 'Cheap Eats', and '12 About Town'. In the summer of 2008, Lauren had the amazing opportunity to work for MTV News. She was a backpack journalist for the MTV News 'Choose or Lose' campaign, and reported on issues young people cared about during the election.
After working in Richmond, Lauren headed to WSET in Lynchburg, Virginia. There she covered one of the market's largest counties, and worked the education beat. During her three years in Lynchburg, Lauren covered everything from the officer shooting at Virginia Tech, to stories about the area's large farming community. Lauren's most memorable story at WSET was a feature of a Bedford woman who had an appetite for eating rocks. She also overcame her fear of drowning, and learned how to swim, for a special report on the high number of drownings in the African American community. After the piece aired, she helped YMCA in their efforts to promote their free swimming programs for underprivileged youth.
Lauren calls Hampton Roads home, but she is originally from a small town in Mississippi. In her spare time, she enjoys reading biographies, writing, and spending time with her family.
